Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praises the “incredible” Max Dowman’s debut after the teenager first made his Premier League appearance in Leeds United’s victory

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised his “incredible” debut from 15-year-old Max Dowman after beating Leeds United 5-0 on Saturday.

The only player before him is his Arsenal teammate Ethan Nuwaneri.

The teenager had already announced himself with a solid performance in the preseason, but it was not surprising to see him come during a comfortable victory at Emirates Stadium.

But he was far from a bystander, making a decisive contribution when he scored a penalty 93 minutes after a foul from Anton Starch.

Viktor Gyoker converted Spot-Kick for the second goal of the game. Defender Julien Timber also scored a brace, with Bukayo Saka scoring another goal for the gunner.

Saka was concerned after the English star had to be replaced by what appears to be a problem with his hamstring. Last season, Saka missed 19 games for just over three months due to a hamstring injury.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Arteta praised Gricker and Lumber for two goals, each before turning to debutants Christian Mosquera and Dawman.

He states:

“Then, Mosquera and Max’s other debuts at just 15 years old. That was certainly special.”

Discussing Dowman in more detail, he said his colleagues were already willing to trust him with the ball.

Arteta added:

“It’s great to be able to change the energy of the stadium. He influenced him. He got a penalty in his Emirates debut, which is incredible.

“First of all, his family is how these children were raised and the environment was created, they are not overwhelmed by the environment and context.

“And the academy’s job helped raise these kids with confidence and understanding of the game at just 15.”

The victory left the Premier League Arsenal top with six points after beating Manchester United last weekend. Rival Tottenham Hotspur was the second behind the goal difference, with six points.

Arsenal’s next match will be on Sunday, August 31st, against last season’s champion Liverpool.

TNT Sports and Discovery+ including Premier League, Men’s and Women’s FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League
