Manchester United were keen on the idea of signing Carlos Valleva from Brighton earlier this summer, but were not ready to include one highly rated young man in every deal
Toby Collier plays a key role in West Bromwich Albion after taking part in the championship outfit on a loan from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old Collyer is one of the highly thoughtful pools of young players at Old Trafford. However, the club determined that the spells they regularly play at the championships would be beneficial for the development of the young midfielder with West Brom.
The youngster made his buggy debut in a 3-2 victory at Wrexham over the weekend, but he may have traded him elsewhere amid the suggestion that the former Brighton Academy starlet could be used as bait in Carlos Valleva’s swap deal.
The Manchester Evening News will later confirm that United will not consider using Collier as a sweetener for Valeva after the Cameroonian star appeared as a serious transfer target for the Red Devils earlier this month. Since then, United have cooled interest in Valeva, considering Brighton will demand more than £115 million in Chelsea, which was paid to Moises Caseco this summer.

Meanwhile, Collyer has been sent to Hawthorn for the 2025-26 campaign and plays regular football. Mason, formerly of Tottenham, hopes to play a major role in Korea’s development over the next 12 months before returning to Old Trafford next year.
Over the weekend, Mason told reporters: “Toby is a young player, but we need him and we know he’s trying to help us. I’ve been wanting Toby for a few weeks now. He’s the guy I really believe in.
“But when you lend it somewhere, I think you need to feel like you want it from the club and the manager, and he certainly does.
“I think there’s a lot of room to grow and there’s a lot of growth to grow. That certainly happens on the training pitch. The reality is games. Games are the best teachers. The more exposed the game, the better it gets, especially at younger ages.
“I’m going to put a lot of energy in him with the same amount of energy as all other players to help them grow and improve.”
