Arsenal dramatically hijacked Tottenham’s contract and signed Ebebeki Eze. The 27-year-old was scheduled to join Crystal Palace’s Spurs after the two clubs agreed to a £60 million regional fee this week.
Previously linked to gunners, their interest was perceived as being over for other developments. Mikel Arteta has already brought Noni Maduke from Chelsea this summer, but teenager Ethan Nwaneri has signed a new five-year deal. However, news of Kai Havertz’s injury prompted Arsenal to dive for Eze.
The Spurs had agreed to the terms of today’s deal with the Palace. However, the palace was not ready to enter into negotiations until the 27-year-old appeared in Thursday’s Conference League playoff match with Fredrikstad.
Arsenal is reportedly currently showing its intention to meet the same conditions, and Eze is said to support the move towards the Emirates. England International was a boyhood Arsenal fan and represented the club at the academy level.
The overall package for transfers is set to be worth over £60 million. Arsenal sports director Andrea Berta is believed to have led the pursuit after Herberts was excluded for a long time due to knee problems.
Tottenham is currently preparing to pursue alternative targets. Though little progress has made in attempts to attack Manchester City through Savinho’s deal with Manchester City, the club has linked Monaco midfielder Magnes Akriuche.
However, the development is still happening as Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy’s Hammer Blow after holding progressive consultations with Steve Parish this week. This summer, a seemingly inevitable deal fell into the 11th hour, missing out on former Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs White.
Thomas Frank is still sought for midfield reinforcements after James Madison’s ACL injury. Eze was recognized as an ideal alternative, and the possibility of travelling to Arsenal appeared to be blocked by the Noni Madueke signature.
