Viktor Gyoker was heavily linked to the possibility of a move to Manchester United and a reunion with Ruben Amorim, but the striker ended up joining Arsenal.
Reuben Amorim and Victor Gyoker will be facing off for the first time when Manchester United hosted Arsenal in the Premier League opening match at Old Trafford. Gyoker played in the sport for nearly two years under Amorim, scoring 66 goals in 68 games in all competitions.
However, Amorim left the sport last year to take over at Old Trafford and Arsenal, now kicking out about £64 million, bringing gifts to the Emirates. The Swedish striker was heavily linked to the possibility of a reunion with United’s Amorim, but that didn’t happen.
And, according to a new report in The Daily Mail, United didn’t even approach Gyoker because they believed the 27-year-old had taken a snatch on his move to Arsenal. The report points out that United didn’t want to lose another transfer fight after missing Liam Dellup to Chelsea.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also said to have been convinced that Gyoker had wanted to join Gunners after making one call.
“That’s a question for Mikel,” Amorim said when asked about gyoker ahead of Sunday’s clash. “Viktor is in another league. His physicality is different.

“In sports, they have a very good scouting group because we can sell to survive from the players they can buy. I think he’s a very good player. He gives a variety of traits.
“If you’re facing Viktor or Havertz, for example, if you’re facing at the start of the game, that’s going to be different. So, you need to prepare for that, but it’s not surprising to see Viktor at a big club in the UK.”
Amorim has more focused on his own new look assault with Sesko joining Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. When asked about his potential new front 3, Amorim said: “First of all, there are three or more.
“They are fighting for the place. I’m really happy. I think he has great potential. In everything he does. He can play different kinds of football.
“He feels that the Premier League is really offensive and he’s going to learn, but he has great potential and you know that Ben is a Manchester United striker for many years. So we paid a lot to have the club a striker with his history.”
