Newcastle has completed the signature of Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey. The 24-year-old signed a long-term contract with Magpies. Magpies are understood to have paid the first £39 million for his services, with an additional £4 million being paid.
The Villa Academy alumni, who has made 167 appearances for the club, is Eddiehau’s fourth acquisition of a difficult summer.
Ramsey said:
“This is a big move for me, but as soon as I found out that Gaffer was interested and really liked it, it didn’t take long to decide.
“It’s been a tough game where you play in a villa that always plays against Newcastle. The team is full of energy, so the athletic and the fans are very passionate. I feel my game fits that.
Magpies will begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday with a 0-0 draw at Villa, while Ramsey will join the team on the training pitch on Monday as Liverpool begins preparing for the champions who visited Tyneside.
Hau said: “Jacob is another great addition to our team. His qualities bring something different to the pitch and fits his profile of being young and hungry, but there is also plenty of Premier League football under his belt.
“Jacob offers versatility and his directness to offense has proven to be a real threat at this level in recent seasons. He also worked very well in last season’s Champions League and I believe he will be a great asset for us.”
Ramsey is part of England’s under-Europe Championship-winning under-21 Championship in 2023, alongside new teammate Anthony Gordon.
He joined Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale and Malick Tear this summer to head to St James, but will focus on the future of Watawash striker Alexander Isaac, who was not involved in Villa Park.
