Louis Enrique led Paris Saint-Germain to a successful Champions League for the first time last season, but in another world he may have managed in the Premier League.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Louis Enrique says Tottenham Hotspur approached him in 2023 with the aim of appointing him as manager.
The Spanish coach moved to PSG in 2023, winning the Champions League in his second season with the club. However, the Spurs eventually appointed Anjou Postcoglo after putting him on the list to replace Antonio Conte.
“I had a few options over the past six months before I came to Paris, and Tottenham was one of them,” said Louis Enrique. He also linked to Manchester United before quitting his post as Spanish manager in 2022, but the timing was not at all correct.
Ironically, United could have finished as a PSG opponent at Woodin on Wednesday night. They faced the Spurs in the Europa League final in May, but fell into a narrow 1-0 loss that ended up being the final match of the Post-Coglu.
PSG found things very easily in the European final against Inter Milan. They were 2-0 within 20 minutes and eventually ran out of 5-0 winners to win the Champions League for the first time.

PSG went on to the Club World Cup final following their Champions League victory, losing to Chelsea. But now they have the opportunity to start a new season with more silverware.
“I am extremely proud to be here and have the opportunity to win another trophy and have a great time,” Captain Marquinos said. “It’ll be very difficult. We resumed training a week ago, and Tottenham is much better prepared. But we know that we’ll give everything tomorrow to get the results we want, even if we’re not 100% yet.
“I’m still hungry. I want to accomplish things, help the younger players, motivate them, make sure they move forward. There are also coaches who keep us motivated and pushed us.
Heading into the match, PSG has completed two major signatures. Lucas Chevalier joined from Lille, prompting questions about the future of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma of last season’s first choice, while centre back Illia Zabarnyi joined from Bournemouth with a deal of up to £57 million.
“For me, Paris Saint-Germain is the best club in the world and the best project for my future,” Zabariny said in her first interview as a PSG player.
“I felt like people wanted me to come here, and honestly, it really motivated me to do so as soon as possible! That’s what happened. This is a new experience for me and that’s surprising to me. I’m still young so I need to try something new.
