Tottenham took a second goal late lead after feeling the pain of a shootout in Thomas Frank’s first match, losing to a thrilling Super Cup final against Paris St. German.

The set-piece goal by Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero spurred another trophy along the way. It will only be three months since Frank’s predecessor Ange Postecoglou will make the Europa League successful in May.

Champions League winner PSG, who returned to the preseason last week following the Club World Cup exploit in July, brought a noisy response with Kang Ying’s Lee pulling back one with five minutes remaining.

Alternate Goncalo Ramos forced a spot kick when he got home with a four-minute stop time to stun the North London Club.

When Bitinha missed the PSG’s first kick, Tottenham initially had the advantage in the shootout, but despite the great display in the Luis Enrique men’s debut in Frank’s competitive debut, Van de Ven and Mathys Tel failed to score a penalty as Luis Enrique’s men won 4-3 on a spot kick.

This fixture marked Romero’s first official match since being appointed captain of the Spurs following the departure of his son Hyun Min, and he was lined up on his back three as Frank quickly pushed his authority over him.

Tottenham closed the opening stage before PSG attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia drove him big to remind him of his talent. It wasn’t possible until Richarrison flew from 20 yards, but PSG debutant Lucas Chevalier – preferred over Italian Gianluigi Donnaruma –

Mohammed Kudus is his first start since the summer switch from West Ham, and once again tested Chevalier just to meet Marquinhos to make important blocks.

Sliced Van de Ben’s clearance presented an opportunity for Osmane Dembele after an instant, but he fired from the target and Tottenham grabbed their opening goal under new boss Frank.

It was from the set piece as Guglielmo Vicario’s diagonal backpost headed towards the penalty area by Romero and Parginha surged into the crossbar, causing a big celebration, as Van de Ben surged into the house.

It was second, but Kudus’ stab efforts hit the post and kept it 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Frank watched the Spurs grab a second.

Another set piece did the trick as Polo chose an unmarked Romero on the back post, and his header to the ground slipped into Chevalier’s hand, as he wanted to forget in Donalumma’s hometown.

Kevin Danso sent another effort to the side net in 52 minutes before Luis Enrique broke.

Romero’s final Ditch defense blocked one chance before Van de Ven slipped in to deny the doe of vibrant desire.

PSG had the ball in the net after 66 minutes, but Brad Leavercora’s strike was banned offside in a move that produced Danso a heroic block to prevent Fabian Lewis from scoring after Vialio saved him from Doo.

Tottenham continues to be pulled back, and PSG reduces the deficit shortly after DJed Spence blocked efforts by Dembele.

Alternate Lee put an effort into the bottom corner with five minutes remaining to set up a nervous finale.

Eventually, when pressure was applied when Achraf Hakimi slipped into Dembele, he crossed for Ramos to get the Leveler home in four minutes of stop time.

The Spurs remained crestfallfallen, but gained two early advantages in the shootout when Captain Romero filmed a spot kick in front of the fans and correctly called Vitanya to make sure Vitanya sent his efforts a lot.

Tottenham was 2-0 when Rodrigo Bentencourt scored, but Van de Ben was rejected by Chevalier and fired the target and allowed Nuno Mendes to take the winning spot kick.
