Kelly Cates talks about strict BBC rules and why she doesn’t call Gary Lineker | Football | Sports

Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates has revealed that he has not been seeking advice from “worshiped” Gary Rhineker, who is preparing to participate in this season’s match, saying “I don’t want to be Gary.” She also promised not to use her platform to defend political and social causes like her BBC predecessors.

Kenny Dalglish’s daughter is ready for a busy season, sharing coverage of the 215 live Premier League matches on Sky Sports, joining the new MOTD team alongside Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan. However, Cates has not reached out to the former England striker for guidance on her new role.

Ahead of the launch of the new Sky Sports Premier League season, she said: “He’s not in touch and I’m not in touch with him, but we don’t avoid each other. He’s great at work and he’s a controversial character, so he’s very nice.

“So from my point of view, the reason why you don’t do that is, I don’t think you want to be Gary. I think there’s the temptation to be someone else, and I think you get a job for yourself.

The 64-year-old Lineker said goodbye to the BBC flagship show following a controversial social media post shared by the Palestine Lobby Group, featuring the image of a rat, a historic anti-Semitic insult.

Lineker “apologises and apologises” and was recently announced as the host of the new ITV game show The Box.

Cates cried out: “I’ve never actually used social media for that, so it’s not something I have to change because it’s not something I’ve used with. I don’t think I’m the best person to talk about some of those issues. Better times.

“I feel that if I don’t get along well with trying it all the time, I shouldn’t express my opinion publicly. On the other hand, I think there are people who don’t necessarily need to be particularly qualified in the area, but they get better information that can do that.”

She has revealed that the number of matches presented this season is a “slightly mobile east feast.”

Cates, who has two teenagers, said, “We can’t do both on the same day, but we managed to do the skies on Saturday and Sunday. Yeah, that works.

“I’ve just had a busy weekend, but I work in sports so I hope I have a busy weekend, and it’s actually a little more clear than they do, so I’m just changing where I work.

Sky Sports will unveil cutting edge technology this season. Super Sunday is displayed at the same time with a multi-view program.

Over 30 additional matches will air on Sunday from teams competing in Europe on Thursday. “We’re still the same thing,” Cates said.

“It’s just talking to guests and getting the most out of the experts. So, in terms of what we actually do, it really isn’t that different. It’s like how it’s all handled and it goes through the process that follows, and how it’s clipped and streamed.

“I think the tone has generally changed to have more conversations, and I think it’s probably because it comes from digital. So I think it’s because the amount of digital media people are consuming has increased dramatically.

Sky Sports and currently air 215 Premier League matches live only this season
