In addition to young winger Tynan Thompson, who joined earlier this week in a deal worth up to £8m, they have also brought in Karl Darlow to boost their goalkeeping ranks. But United won’t stop there, with Michael Carrick keen to improve the quality of his squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

Express Sport looks at the four players who should be next on United’s transfer priority list…

It has been widely reported that United want to sign a third central midfielder, but they could do a lot worse than signing a well-connected player who was brilliant at the World Cup and should be good enough in the Premier League.

Reports from Italy suggest the Roma playmaker could be available for around £51m, far cheaper than the likes of Adam Wharton and Aurelien Choameni.

United could also improve at left-back, given Luke Shaw’s only real position at the moment. He’s not getting any younger and will have more help throughout next season.

Newcastle defender Hall would be an ideal signing given he already has a proven track record in the Premier League and would be able to share roles with Shaw before eventually replacing him.

But he won’t come cheap, with the Magpies reportedly demanding up to £60m in exchange for his signature.

Signing a top-class striker should also be on United’s agenda, with Benjamin Sesco’s injury potentially derailing efforts for next season.

Move forward Victor Osimhen, who has long been hailed as one of Europe’s most feared marksmen but has never tested himself in the Premier League.

He is said to be high on United’s list of summer targets, but it remains to be seen whether his nine-figure asking price is too high for the Red Devils.

United could see Van de Ven shine in the center of their back four, and their central defense could also improve. His blistering speed, excellent positioning and ball-playing ability suit United’s style of play well under Carrick.

The tall Dutchman also has great aerial presence and would be the perfect replacement for Matthijs de Ligt if the injury-prone defender moves between now and the start of the new season.
