Inter Miami have secured Casemiro’s contract, but MLS is considering a move following a complaint from LA Galaxy, which had the right to negotiate with the player.
MLS has announced that it is considering a move for Casemiro to Inter Miami following the cheating allegations.
The Brazilian was allowed to leave Manchester United at the end of last season when his contract expired, and despite numerous offers, he chose to move across the Atlantic and join the franchise co-owned by David Beckham.
ESPN reports that the complaint, ironically, comes from Beckham’s former club, the Los Angeles Galaxy, which took issue with Inter Miami’s contact with Casemiro prior to the player’s Discovery Priority status.
The teams have reached a settlement regarding Casemiro’s discovery priority status, but league officials will continue to review the matter.
“The league is gathering all relevant information and will decline further comment until the review is complete,” MLS said in a statement. Inter Miami CF and LA Galaxy have reached a settlement regarding Casemiro’s Discovery Priority contract, but the terms will be lifted once the tampering investigation is concluded. ”
MLS rules state that clubs can have up to five players on the discovery list at any time. Once that is complete, that team will have the exclusive right to enter into negotiations without competing with other teams in MLS. LA Galaxy had discovery priority over Casemiro, so Inter Miami had to acquire the rights to the player from the Los Angeles club.
Inter Miami had signed five-time Champions League winner Casemiro to a contract until the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint season, with an option to extend until June 2029. He joins a squad that includes Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul.
Upon signing the contract, the player said: “What motivates me the most, and I think this applies to every player, is to win and continue to develop. The project that the club has presented to me and the effort that everyone has made to bring me here means a lot to me.”
“I’m really grateful. I can’t wait to start playing so I can repay that trust, not just in the 90 minutes on match days, but in training every day. All I can say is thank you. I will give everything I have to repay the love and trust the club has shown in me.”
