With Real Madrid eyeing a move for World Cup winner Rodri, Manchester United are waiting in the wings, with the likes of Aurélien Choameny also likely to be considered for the future.

Manchester City star Rodri remains keen to return to Madrid and a potential move for Bernborg could be of benefit to Manchester United.

The Spanish midfielder has come into his own as a key figure in his country’s World Cup success and was named player of the match, two years after winning the award at Euro 2024.

Rodri has been a pillar of City’s success since joining in 2019, but he only has one year left on his contract at the Etihad. He has attracted the attention of Real Madrid, with president Florentino Perez giving the green light to sign him after initial reservations, the Daily Mail reports.

Those in Manchester’s blue side are wise to the fact that Rodri has not signed a contract extension and they have already spent the club’s record transfer fee to bring in Elliott Anderson. They are currently working on signing Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouadi, who impressed at the World Cup.

If Real secure Rodri’s move, a key player could leave the Bernabéu. Aurelien Choameny has reportedly agreed a new contract extension, but his chances in the Spanish capital could be limited, with United keen to sign the Frenchman. The 26-year-old will cost a lot of money and pay a hefty salary, but they know it will be a blockbuster deal.

Despite already adding Youri Tielemans and Andrej Santos, midfield remains a priority area for the Red Devils. A number of Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation and if a deal for Rodri materializes, Choameni’s compatriot Eduardo Camavinga could also leave the Spanish capital.

Rumor has it that Manchester United remain linked with a big-money move for Aurélien Choamenyi.

Camavinga is considering London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal as well as City himself. Although he is only 23 years old, he has vast experience and can boast a resume that includes success in the Champions League.

Before the World Cup final, Rodri told Diario AS:

“Very important is the challenge[of the final against Argentina]. We have to think about it. Raising the level will help us make decisions. Of course I’m happy with the performance, but we’re one step away from glory.”
