The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina was played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, but neither team was able to practice on Saturday.

Neither Spain nor Argentina could practice before the World Cup final.

Spain were forced to cancel their final practice session before the World Cup final.

La Roja was scheduled to train Saturday morning at Melanie Lane in Whippany, the former home of New York Red Bulls, but the session was initially postponed due to thunderstorms in New Jersey.

Reluctantly, the Royal Spanish Football Federation decided to cancel training altogether due to lightning in the area. Spain’s players were instead expected to take part in long gym sessions indoors.

Coach Luis de la Fuente confirmed on Friday that Lamine Yamal is fit to play, so there is no need to worry about injury.

Yamal is suffering from a thigh problem after taking a penalty-winning blow in Spain’s 2-0 semi-final win over France on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Argentina’s training schedule was also suspended. The reigning champion was originally scheduled to arrive at the Red Bulls Performance Center in Morristown, New Jersey, at 11:30 a.m. local time, but the session was delayed due to lightning.

AFA subsequently rescheduled the session to 12:15 p.m. local. Eventually, the players appeared on the rain-soaked grass.

Lionel Scaloni has already revealed that he was unhappy with the training time that FIFA gave Argentina on Friday, explaining: “Today we were forced to train at a time we didn’t want, but because of the conference and everything, we had to practice for a strangely short time and we couldn’t try almost anything.”

Spain coach de la Fuente is relishing the challenge of playing against a team he greatly respects. “It’s an honor just to be in the final. I’m not the type of person who likes clichés. What’s important is to be there. I would sign up every year with the intention of losing in the World Cup final.”

“It’s that important. Besides, we have the chance to fight for the win. We have to enjoy it. It’s against an opponent who has been outstanding since Scaloni took over.”

Scaloni was actually coached by his opposite number during the FIFA Pro License Coaching Course.
