The World Cup third-place match has been struggling to sell out tickets, with FIFA having to slash prices to ensure they can sell England vs. France tickets.
FIFA is finding it difficult to ensure a full house for England’s match against France on Saturday night.
As for the World Cup third-place match, both teams have hopes of reaching Sunday’s final, and the anticipation is overwhelming, and that is reflected in the demand for tickets.
Around 7,000 tickets were still available at 10am UK time on Friday, 36 hours before kick-off in Miami. There were still 1,246 tickets left on general sale, with prices listed at £657 and £855.
A further 5,864 tickets were listed on the official resale platform, with the cheapest Category 3 ticket costing £346 plus FIFA’s 15 per cent handling fee. FIFA is also reducing prices for the more expensive categories on the list to avoid empty seats.
To highlight the savings currently available, Category 1 tickets were originally £855 and are now £500. Tickets for Sunday’s World Cup final are still not sold out, with more than 1,000 tickets available on the FIFA resale site.
Interest in Saturday’s game may wane. England last played in the third-place play-off in 2018, when they lost to Belgium, but less than a third of the 30.9 million people who watched their semi-final defeat to Croatia decided to tune in.
This ultimately represents a change for Thomas Tuchel’s team to take the next step from the defeat against Argentina, which had a major impact on the German national team catching up.
The ex-Chelsea boss was fired up at Friday’s press conference: “We feel the pain more than anything and that’s the hurt we have right now. It’s our pain, it’s my pain, it’s the players’ pain.”
“This is a very painful defeat and we have to accept this defeat. First and foremost, we only want what is best for us, not the pundits, experts and families who are also suffering. We will overcome this defeat, we will take advantage of this and we will react. And it starts tomorrow. If we win tomorrow’s game we will have the best result in the World Cup in 60 years. That is the outlook for it.”
