Youri Tielemans joins Manchester United on a permanent deal from Aston Villa after triggering his £35m release clause.
Manchester United have completed the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. Tielemans emerged as a United target on Monday as the Red Devils looked to bring the Belgium international to Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick’s side have agreed to pay the £35m release clause in Tielemans’ contract, making the 29-year-old their second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Andrej Santos. The Red Devils recently agreed to sign the Chelsea ace after completing a £50m package.
United have been forced to enter the market for a new midfielder following the departure of Casemiro, who left Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of last month after his contract expired, and Manuel Ugarte’s knee injury sustained at the World Cup.
Tielemans becomes the second new addition to Carrick’s squad this summer. Speaking on United’s official website after the transfer was confirmed, Tielemans said: “Words cannot express how proud I am to be joining Manchester United.
“It’s an incredible feeling to sign for such a special club. This is the culmination of many years of dedication since I first fell in love with football. I have had the privilege of experiencing success in the game, which only strengthens my determination to achieve even more.”
“The ambitions of everyone at the club are very clear and we are all determined to push for the biggest trophies in the coming years.”
The 29-year-old recently represented Belgium at this summer’s World Cup, scoring two goals to help his country reach the quarter-finals.
Now that Tielemans has been signed, attention will now turn to what other business United could do before the transfer window draws to a close. Atalanta star Ederson continues to be linked with a move to United, with the Brazilian’s future remaining uncertain after the Red Devils completed the deal for Santos and Tielemans.

Jason Wilcox, the club’s director of football, added: “Yuri has consistently been one of the most outstanding midfielders in the Premier League over the past seven years. He has all the technical qualities as well as the ambition and mentality to succeed at Manchester United.”
“Yuri’s consistency is exceptional and he will add even more poise, creativity and leadership to our team. We are delighted to welcome a player of his influence and experience both on the pitch and in the dressing room as we continue to build a team ready to challenge for the biggest honours.”
In addition to the £35m deposit, a further £3.8m in transfer fees have been agreed between the two clubs, and although the move is no longer expected to be completed, it is reported that it could be reconsidered at the end of the transfer window. However, they are still expected to sign a new midfielder.
France and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Choameny remains a target. There have also been rumors of a move for England international and Bournemouth ace Alex Scott, but it is understood that the Cherries have no intention of selling the former Bristol City ace.
United will now continue their preparations for the start of the new campaign, heading to the MKM Stadium to take on newly promoted Hull City on August 22nd.
