Argentina begins ‘special request’ to FIFA ahead of England World Cup semi-finals | Soccer | Sports

Argentina have reportedly submitted a request to FIFA regarding the uniform they will wear in the World Cup semi-final against England. The Three Lions secured a place in the last four of the tournament with a win over Norway in the quarter-finals over the weekend.

England will play Argentina for a place in the World Cup finals, but their opponent will be Lionel Messi, who is in top form, leading the Golden Boot race with eight goals, along with France’s Kylian Mbappé. Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals and appear to have submitted a request to FIFA regarding their upcoming match against England.

Journalist Gaston Edul claimed that Argentina had submitted a request to FIFA to wear an all-blue kit rather than a blue and white strip.

Argentina have worn their traditional blue and white striped kits in all but one of their six World Cup matches so far, with the only exception being their June 28 group stage victory over Jordan.

On the occasion, Lionel Scaloni’s side wore the all-blue strip that Argentina are said to have asked FIFA for permission to wear against England.

Messi helped Argentina reach the semi-finals as they look to defend the title they won in the previous edition held in Qatar in 2022.

After Argentina’s win over Switzerland, the Inter Miami superstar shared his thoughts on the possibility of facing England in the semi-finals for the first time in his career.

Messi also spoke about the history of the two countries, with particular reference to the iconic 1986 World Cup quarter-finals.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina, Messi said, “Everything I see and remember (about the 1986 Argentina vs. England game) comes from videos and images that Argentines watch and relive all the time.” “But I think this group is used to playing the game of football regardless of the opponent.

“Obviously, playing against England is special because they are a strong team and any game against a strong team is always special.

“Personally, it’s my first time playing against them. I’ve played against everyone except England, so I’ll be happy in that sense.

“And we will experience it for what it is: a World Cup semi-final against a strong, great team. And we will try to arrive in the best possible condition to compete again.”
