Arsenal have increased their hopes of signing Bruno Guimarães after agreeing personal terms and a contract length with the midfielder, but Newcastle are said to be unwilling to confirm a move.

Bruno Guimarães has agreed a five-year deal with Arsenal, according to reports, with the Gunners aiming to agree a transfer fee for Newcastle’s coveted star.
The Magpies are facing a summer of hell and their captain has now informed the club of his intention to leave. He signed in 2022 and has become a talismanic figure at St James’ Park, but he appears to have failed to attract the attention of the Premier League champions.
As reported by L’Equipe, the Brazilian has already agreed personal terms for his move to the Emirates, which will see the 28-year-old play for Arsenal until his mid-30s.
The question now is whether Arsenal can agree a price with Newcastle, who reportedly rejected an opening offer and are ultimately unwilling to sell him. If they allow him to leave, they will demand more than £100m.
Guimarães included a sell clause when he moved to St James’ Park in mid-season four years ago, so his former club Lyon stand to benefit financially from any move. He has played in 195 games and scored 31 goals.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to take his team to the next level after their Premier League win. He remains keen on signing Guimarães, despite having Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Martin Zvimendi as options in central midfield.
The Brazilian led Newcastle to Carabao Cup glory two seasons ago, lifting the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years, but a poor season, coupled with some high-profile departures, could now lead to his departure.

Newcastle endured a poor season, which was blamed on them selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool on deadline day for a record transfer fee in England. During this period, they have already cleared Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.
This means he has regained £170m and greatly reduces the need for a sale, but his departure has raised concerns about the club’s direction and ambitions. Losing Guimarães would be a huge blow as Newcastle’s top players continue to leave the club.
