Manchester United look set to significantly increase their transfer fee this summer, despite the looming £50m signing of Andrej Santos from Chelsea. The Brazilian is set to move to Old Trafford this summer and the 22-year-old will complete a medical before putting pen to paper on a long-term deal.
Michael Carrick is expected to form a strong midfield partnership with Santos on track to line up alongside Ederson. At the moment, an announcement is expected to be made within the next few days, while medical tests are being finalized following Brazil’s World Cup exit.
An agreement signed in 2024 could make additional funding available for reinforcements elsewhere. Mason Greenwood, currently registered at Marseille, is close to a £34.1m move to Fenerbahce.
Fabrizio Romano said the move is expected to be finalized after lengthy discussions between the two sides, with the Turkish side increasing their bid and including add-ons to bring it closer to Marseille’s asking price of £42 million.
However, the transfer agreement that took him to the Stade Velodrome two years ago means Marseille will have to hand over a significant portion of the transfer fee to United. Greenwood left Old Trafford in 2024 on a £26.6m deal after United decided he could no longer stay at the club.

In 2022, he was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behavior, and was suspended from the Academy Awards by United. The forward denied the charges, which were subsequently dropped, but was found to have been marginalized at Old Trafford before departing for Marseille following a loan spell with Getafe.
United are expected to include a sell clause in his contract with Marseille, securing up to 50% of his future transfer fee. That would free up a significant £17m for his transfer budget, which would come in handy after paying Chelsea £48m upfront to sign Santos.
Greenwood’s performances in the 2025/26 season, in which he scored 26 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions, attracted the attention of many clubs across Europe. Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are tracking his development, but ambitious Fenerbahce are leading the race.

Greenwood had previously indicated he wanted to remain with the French team, but it appears the club has made his decision. After earning a place in Ligue 1’s team of the season, he said: “Overall this season has been difficult at times, especially in the last few months, but I think I’ve had a good season personally.
“I’m happy to receive this trophy because we have some great players in this year’s team. Ligue 1 is a great league. We’re playing great games and for me it’s one of the best leagues I’ve ever played in. I hope I can stay.”
