Hello. Welcome to the Mirror Football Transfer Blog for Wednesday 8th July.
Arsenal have reportedly booked a medical for Ilan Meslier as they search for a new backup goalkeeper for David Raya. Kepa Arrizabalaga is said to be heading for the exit to play more consistent first-team football after realizing his cup appearances will be limited in the 2025/26 season.
As a result, the Gunners are keen to pursue Meslier, who left Leeds United as a free agent when his contract expired. The 26-year-old did not make a single senior appearance for the Peacocks last season, scoring six goals in two games as a substitute.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are said to be targeting Real Madrid’s Aurelien Choameni. The Red Devils are still looking to strengthen their midfield after losing Elliott Anderson and Matheus Fernandes to Manchester City and Spurs respectively.
While Ederson’s arrival from Atalanta is almost certain, Michael Carrick is clearly looking for a number of star players to fill Casemiro’s void. As a result, United have started talks about a move for Choameni, but the deal will not come cheap.
It has been suggested that the transfer would be worth at least £68 million if successful, underscoring the importance of the 26-year-old Frenchman to Los Blancos.
Elsewhere, Liverpool have made initial inquiries about the possibility of signing Gilberto Mora from Club Tijuana following his impressive performance in the World Cup against Mexico. It is understood the 17-year-old attacking midfielder has a release clause of around £18m in his current contract, which runs until 2029.
