More than a month ago, Manchester United reached an agreement with Atalanta for Enderson on a deal worth up to £38 million, and the move is now complete.
Manchester United are inching closer to making their first signing of the summer transfer window. Following Brazil’s World Cup exit on Sunday, Ederson will be free to complete his long-awaited move to Old Trafford.
United and Atalanta agreed a deal worth up to £38 million at the beginning of June, which also includes personal conditions until 2030. Ederson’s arrival was always due to be finalized in July, but his late call-up to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the World Cup cemented that.
The midfielder made two substitute appearances during the tournament, including a cameo in Brazil’s 2-1 loss to Norway in the round of 16. Now that Brazil has returned home, Ederson can focus on his club career.
According to reports from Italy, the 26-year-old will travel to the UK to complete final medical tests in the US after already undergoing initial tests in Brazil. However, no deadline has been set and Ederson is expected to take a short break before joining up with his new United team-mates.

Ederson was appointed by Carrick and United’s director of football Jason Wilcox to replace Casemiro, who recently left Old Trafford at the end of his contract. His arrival marks Carrick’s first signing since being appointed permanent manager in May and marks the start of an important summer for the Red Devils.
With Casemiro out and Manuel Ugarte expected to miss much of the 2026-27 season after sustaining a serious knee injury at the World Cup, United are in need of reinforcements in midfield. The Red Devils lost out to Manchester City in the race to sign Elliott Anderson, valued at £116 million, and selected Matheus Fernandes in his place.

However, United were cornered by Tottenham, who paid West Ham a fixed fee of £85m. Other targets include Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and Real Madrid star Aurelien Choameny, while Carrick’s side have also recently been linked with Chelsea’s Andrei Santos and Bournemouth youngster Alex Scott.
United are also looking to sign a reserve goalkeeper, left-back, left winger, striker and potentially a third midfielder. The Red Devils travel to newly promoted Hull City on the opening weekend of the season, before taking on fellow Championship contenders Ipswich Town.
