Ederson remains on track to make a permanent move to Manchester United, despite recent reports that the deal has fallen through. The Atalanta midfielder is a true Red Devil, but neither the club nor his agent have made an official announcement yet. A contract worth £35m plus £3.8m in add-ons has been agreed with the Italian side for the Brazil international.
Personal terms have been settled as well, with the player set to sign a four-year contract once the transfer is complete. Recently, there were rumors that a deal with Ederson had fallen through. Express Sport has confirmed that this is not the case. The original agreement remains firm and Ederson is still expected to arrive at Old Trafford. The reason for the delay in the official announcement is that he will be participating in the World Cup with Brazil.
The South American player has not yet undergone a medical check. A medical check is usually one of the final steps in a transfer. He cannot complete this process with United until he returns from the tournament.
His medical check may be completed sooner than expected after Brazil lost 2-0 to Norway and were eliminated from the World Cup. Two goals from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland condemned the South American team to a painful and disappointing early exit.
At this stage, the timing of his medical examination is still unclear. United may choose to give him time to rest and recover after the World Cup, or they may try to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
From July 18th to August 1st, Michael Carrick’s side will play Wrexham in Helsinki, Finland, Rosenberg in Trondheim, Norway, and Atletico Madrid in Stockholm, Sweden. It remains to be seen whether Michael Carrick will be able to call him up for these games.
He could make his debut in a United shirt in a friendly against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg, Sweden, on August 8.
By the time United begin their pre-season tour of Scandinavia, Carrick will no doubt be hoping that Ederson is not his only midfield option.
With Casemiro leaving the club and Manuel Ugarte out after sustaining a serious knee injury while playing for Uruguay at the World Cup, only senior central midfielder Koby Mainu is available. United continue to be linked with a number of midfielders.
Former targets Elliott Anderson and Matheus Fernandes were ultimately deemed too expensive, with moves to Manchester City and Tottenham respectively completed.
Sandro Tonali, who was previously linked with United, is also set to join the latter in a deal thought to be worth around £100m.
Real Madrid’s Aurélien Choameny, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and most recently Chelsea’s Andrei Santos are all on the list of potential targets.
