England captain Leah Williamson was overcome by the homecoming that the European champions in London received as the Lioness continues to celebrate their latest trophies.

England captain Leah Williamson said he was fighting back tears at the European champions’ open-top bus parade through London at lunchtime on Tuesday.

And while the Arsenal star thought the Lioness was doing “hardway” by coming from behind on all three knockout fixtures, the experience was the best of her career, having won two penalty shootouts.

“I’m holding back tears. I was crying all the mall,” Williamson recalls television presenter Alex Scott in front of an estimated crowd of 50,000 when interviewed by the former England star.

“This is incredible. It’s probably one of the best (things) we’ve ever been involved in, so thank you for coming out.

“There are many ways to win a football match, and we’ve done it repeatedly in the difficult ways, but you can see how much we play in England and how much we love it.”

Scott had to apologise on behalf of Super Sub Chloe Kelly after being caught up in a celebration he vowed while living on TV.

“It feels so good to stand alongside each of these girls, and it’s so special,” Kelly said. “It’s incredible to stand here with the winner’s medal around our neck today. I’m so proud to be in English.”

Another Michel Ageman, who had a major impact coming out of the Swiss bench, added:

The entire team attended the latest part of their deserved celebration – apart from defender Jess Carter, who was forced back to the US by her club Gotham FC.

They faced Chicago in an NWSL conflict on Friday night, and Carter is not given a vacation to absorb the glory along with her teammates.
