Ange Postecoglou has been removed as manager since his disastrous short spell at Nottingham Forest when he was sacked in October last year.
Al Nasr have announced the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach. The Australian will manage Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League side.
The 60-year-old has been out of work since being sacked as Nottingham Forest manager in October after just 40 days in charge, during which time he has been winless in all eight games. Postecoglou’s disastrous tenure at the City Ground included six defeats and a fan revolt in the East Midlands before his sacking.
The Australian previously managed Tottenham Hotspur, leading them to the Europa League title in 2025, but was sacked in the summer as the Lilywhites finished 17th in the Premier League.
The former Celtic manager will be working as a commentator for ITV at this summer’s World Cup, providing analysis to British viewers alongside the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Ian Wright.
Now, Al Nasr has given Postecoglou a chance to return as manager, with the Middle Eastern club announcing on social media that they have signed Postecoglou to a two-year contract.
“A new chapter. Ange Postecoglou has been appointed head coach of Al Nasr First Team. The contract lasts for two seasons,” the club said in a statement. “We wish him and his staff every success on their journey.”
Postecoglou had been linked with Scotland or Kazakhstan after Steve Clarke resigned following their exit from the World Cup group stage, but media reports said his wage demands were too high for the Central Asian team.
The former defender will take over Ronaldo’s Al Nasr side, who led the club to the Saudi Professional League title on the final day of the season in May under coach Jorge Jesus, who resigned after winning the title.
Postecoglou will also coach Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman and Joao Felix.
Sky Sports, HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+ and Ultimate TV packages

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundles to include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, plus 135 channels and complete coverage of the Premier League and EFL from Sky.
Sky has over 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more, with at least 215 of them live from the top flight, along with F1, darts and golf.
His predecessor in Saudi Arabia, Mr Jesús, is thought to have earned around £10.5m a year, and Mr Postecoglou is likely to have similarly eye-popping remuneration.
The Northern Irishman will also face fellow former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers for the Saudi title next season after joining Al Qadizia from Parkhead last year.
