The 2025/26 season was a disappointing one, which ultimately led to the departure of manager Arne Slott. Liverpool finished the season in fifth place, qualifying for the final Champions League.
Van Dijk has been a mainstay for Liverpool since completing his move from Southampton in January 2018. The 34-year-old has been the club’s captain since the start of the 2023/24 season.
Until now, it seemed impossible to sell the centre-back. However, TEAMtalk claim the Reds are willing to consider any serious offers that have arrived for the defender this summer.
Van Dijk signed a new contract last year, which runs until 2027. That means this transfer window could be the last time Liverpool can get him a significant transfer fee.
AC Milan are said to have already made inquiries about the possibility of signing him, while Turkish sides Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are also said to be interested. They will reportedly be joined by the Saudi Pro League and American clubs.
Liverpool are said to want to strengthen their centre-back options before sanctioning a move. With Ibrahima Konate leaving the club at the end of his contract and Joe Gomez’s future uncertain, youngsters Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni will be the only central defenders in the squad.
The club have a buy-back option for Jarrell Quansah, who left for Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal last summer. The clause means the Reds could re-sign the defender for around £60m.
Van Dijk is representing the Netherlands at this summer’s North American World Cup. The country lost on penalties against Morocco in the Round of 32.
