Liverpool have officially parted ways with 12 players. A few weeks ago, the Reds confirmed their retention and release list ahead of the 2026/27 season.

A number of academy players have left the club when their contracts expired, but the three that have attracted particular attention are Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, all of whom have announced that their contracts are due to expire at the end of this month and that they are close to leaving the club.

The trio, along with nine other players, officially left the club when their contracts expired as of midnight. Scotland international Robertson is set to join Tottenham Hotspur, while French centre-back Konate is set to move to Real Madrid.

It is still unclear where Salah will be traded next season. With the departure of the three players, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola appears to have cut a staggering £710,000-a-week from the club’s payroll, which will help the club boost its recruitment drive this summer. Konate was reportedly earning £150,000 a week at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Robertson was said to be taking home £160,000 a week. Salah, who signed a new two-year contract with the Reds in 2025, was thought to be asking for a staggering £400,000-a-week wages.

Academy graduates Kareem Ahmed, Emmanuel Iloboma, James Balajiji, DJ Barnard, Oakley Cannonier, Josh Davidson, Terence Miles and Jacob Poytress are all set to leave Anfield. Defender Rhys Williams, who starred alongside Nat Phillips at the heart of the Reds’ backline during the 2020/2021 season, has also left amid the infamous injury crisis.

However, this is not just about his departure from Liverpool. The club appear to have missed out on signing Yann Diomande, with the Ivorian winger reportedly hoping to move to European champions PSG, but they have started their summer business by signing Victor Muñoz.

The Spanish winger paid the Reds a fee of £34.5m from Osasuna. Liverpool have long been eyeing Muñoz and his abilities, watching him make two first-team appearances for Real Madrid before establishing himself as a full-time Spain international, but the existence of a release clause has accelerated proceedings.

The six-year deal’s total fee of £34.5m equates to just £5.75m a year for the Reds, a reasonable sum for a player capable of developing into a first-team regular at Anfield.

“I’ve been focused on the World Cup, so I didn’t want to hear too much about my future other than what was clear,” Munoz said. “Liverpool is an opportunity we can’t miss.

“Everything happened very quickly. Iraola gave me confidence in how the team will play. He played an important role in terms of selection.”

Amid a number of departures from Liverpool, the club also confirmed that contract offers have been extended for Prince Cissé, Keylor Figueroa, Kyle Kelly, Afolami Onanuga, Oliver O’Connor, Lucas Pitt, Ben Trueman and Matthew Wright.

A statement on Liverpool’s official website paid tribute to those making their way out, saying: “The whole club would like to thank the players for their contribution and wish each of them the best of luck for the future.”
