Tottenham agree to spend big on sixth player with Sandro Tonali’s £100m transfer | Soccer | Sports

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to sign Sandro Tonali in a big-money deal with Newcastle United this summer. It comes at a time when Spurs are spending huge sums of money to prepare Roberto De Zerbi, who has finished 17th in the table, with a team that can challenge for a higher spot.

Tottenham have fallen behind in the last two seasons and despite winning their first silver medal since 2008 last year, they have serious problems. Their latest statement in the transfer market appears to be a significant one, with Tonali set to become the club’s most expensive player in its history.

The Athletic report that the 26-year-old will head to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after an agreement worth £92.5 million was reached between the clubs. The deal could ultimately rise to £100m if proposed additional conditions, including Champions League qualification, are met.

The north Londoners have raised the bar in their bid for Tonali after learning of strong interest from other clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United, who had been sniffing around the Italian international. They are said to have had contact between the clubs late last month before pulling the trigger on a club-record deal.

That record is set to be broken after news broke that Spurs had agreed an £85m deal with Matheus Fernandes from recently relegated West Ham United. Neither transfer has yet been completed, but if Tonali were to sign on the dotted line, he would become Tottenham’s most expensive player in history.

It’s already been a busy summer for Spurs, with three players arriving at the club. The 2025 Europa League winners have acquired Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers, with the pair joining from Bournemouth and Liverpool respectively. Reserve goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is also one of the free signings.

They also spent big to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £52 million, although the defender had one year left on his contract at the Amex Stadium. There have been several rumors about his departure, with Lukas Bergvall reportedly wanting to leave Spurs in search of a new challenge.

Tottenham are far from done, with the relegated side said to be chasing a new winger, with City’s Savinho mentioned as a potential target. They also showed interest last summer, suggesting Spurs have renewed their interest in the Brazilian forward.
