Marcus Rashford could be given the chance to revive his Manchester United career following constructive talks between the club and the player’s representatives. Rashford is currently representing England at the World Cup, but will return to Carrington for pre-season in about three weeks after the Three Lions complete the tournament in North America.
The 28-year-old is expected to rejoin the first team as soon as he returns to training and could feature in some of the six warm-up games United have arranged before the Premier League kicks off on August 22, as he will compete for selection during pre-season under manager Michael Carrick. Rashford was widely expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, even after Barcelona rejected their £26m option to make him a permanent player.
Rashford was directly involved in 28 goals during his time at Camp Nou, but was caught off guard by Barcelona’s decision to sign Anthony Gordon instead for £69m.
However, it is now widely believed that talks between the two sides could see Rashford remain at United after the transfer window closes, paving the way for a return to pre-season. We are now ready to explore ways to return to Academy products on all fronts.
That remains uncertain and that could change if an offer is delayed, but United are currently reluctant to approve a third loan spell following Rashford’s spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona. Rashford was keen to extend his stay in Catalonia, but United are reluctant to renegotiate negotiations with the La Liga club.
Rashford is expected to attract interest from the Premier League this summer, but he is said to want to fulfill the remaining two years of his contract rather than accept a permanent move to another English club at this time.
This opened the door for him to remain at United, but it would also impact on Michael Carrick’s transfer plans, as it would reduce the need for another attacker, especially given Rashford’s ability to wear multiple roles.
Rashford was already set to join the first team this summer after being banished to the ‘bomb squad’ by Ruben Amorim 12 months ago.

United are looking to strengthen their left flank this summer and had considered Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and West Ham’s Crisencio Somerville as potential targets, but those plans could be abandoned if Rashford remains at the club.
He could compete with Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorg on the left, and could also be an alternative to Benjamin Sesco as a striker.
If Rashford returns, United could use the money allocated to sign the left-winger to further strengthen their midfield, with Manuel Ugarte sidelined for much of next season with a serious knee injury.
United have secured the signing of Ederson from Atalanta for the time being and continue to pursue a move for West Ham midfielder Matheus Fernandes.
