Jose Mourinho has been incredibly active in the transfer market and Real Madrid’s new manager wants Enzo Fernandes, but he may have to confirm his departure beforehand.
Manager Jose Mourinho is keen to add another midfielder to his Real Madrid squad and has set his sights firmly on Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandes.
The Argentine player has publicly teased a move to the Spanish capital, insisting on Madrid as his place of residence and refusing to commit to the Blues. As a result, he was suspended for a period of time last season by then-manager Liam Rosenior.
Fernandes moved to Stamford Bridge in the aftermath of the last World Cup, costing Chelsea £106m, but continued to show his quality in west London. However, Real’s temptations may be too strong and ESPN understands that Mourinho has marked him as a top target.
If the Spanish giants make a deal, they will likely have to release members of their current squad. They are holding off on any further midfield additions until they allow the release and Eduardo Camavinga could be a big-name departure.
Los Blancos confirmed Dani Ceballos’ departure on Friday and the Frenchman, who is wanted by several English teams, could follow, but Camavinga himself wants to stay, which could complicate matters.
Real are also considering what to do with Aurelien Choameni, who is highly regarded by English clubs including Manchester United. The club would not rule out his departure if a significant offer were made, but he is seen as the only specialist holding midfielder in the squad, which could lead to him staying.
The Special One spent the next few weeks in Madrid raiding English clubs to strengthen his ranks. The Whites have already made a deal with the Blues, spending £51m to sign Marc Cucurella as part of their defensive rebuild.
Cucurella has discussed signing Fernandes, telling Spanish newspaper Marca: “He is a great player and a friend of mine. He congratulated me on signing him.” “I hope so. I’m very happy.”
“We were very happy at Chelsea and had the opportunity to sign for Real Madrid in the same summer… I hope he is lucky and becomes a Real Madrid player.”
Ibrahima Konate was unable to agree a new contract with Liverpool, while Bernardo Silva allowed his contract with Manchester City to expire. This means both players will be available on free transfers and head to the Bernabéu. Dutchman Denzel Dumfries joins to improve the quality of the right-back position.
