FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirms US President Donald Trump’s plans to play in the World Cup finals

US President Donald Trump will hand over the trophy to the World Cup winner, FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed.
Infantino appeared on FOX and Friends Tuesday morning and revealed exactly what role Trump will play in the World Cup finals later this summer.

“We are going to enjoy the final together with the president and hand over the trophy to the winner, of course we will be together,” Infantino said. Asked to clarify whether he and Trump would hand over the trophy together, Infantino said: “Of course we will always be together.”
It comes as President Trump faces a World Cup dilemma as supporters target him with offensive chants during games, sending his aides into “crisis mode.”
“The president’s staff are in crisis mode trying to prevent him from being directly exposed to the chants, including avoiding matches involving English-speaking teams,” a source told the Mirror.
This is not the first time President Trump, who has yet to attend a World Cup game this summer, has presented a trophy to a soccer team after winning a major tournament.
Last year, Trump joined Chelsea FC on stage at MetLife Stadium, where the World Cup final will be held on July 19, to present the FIFA Club World Cup trophy.

He then awkwardly remained on stage during the team’s celebration, claiming that he “wanted to stay”. This time it will be a very important event.
The World Cup final is held once every four years and is widely regarded as the planet’s biggest sporting spectacle, with billions of people expected to watch the match around the world.
The tournament is hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with the finals being played in New Jersey, so there was always a chance that Trump would attend the finals, even if he wouldn’t attend many of the other games.

However, he has yet to make his first appearance, and Infantino’s confirmation that he will play in the final could be the only game he will watch in person.
It comes in a sports-filled summer for the president, who has already attended the NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden (which drew jeers from Knicks supporters) and the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House on his 80th birthday.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Infantino have maintained an interesting relationship, with many accusing the FIFA president of favoring Mr. Trump, especially after he won the first FIFA Peace Prize in the World Cup draw in December.
Infantino also visited the Oval Office with the World Cup trophy before the tournament.
