Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of midfielder signings this summer, including Sandro Tonali and Matheus Ferna.
Lukas Bergvall has told Tottenham Hotspur of his intention to leave the club this summer. The 20-year-old had just joined North London from Djurgarden in a deal worth £8.5 million in 2024, but struggled to find consistent playing time towards the end of the 2025/26 season, mainly coming on as a second-half substitute following the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi.
The Athletic reports that the Sweden player, who is currently representing his country at the 2026 World Cup in North America, is looking for a new challenge elsewhere. The midfielder had previously attracted interest from clubs such as Chelsea and Aston Villa, but Spurs had no intention of parting ways with him at the time.
Whether either side remains interested in his services remains to be determined. Given the skyrocketing midfield market this summer, a move for Bergvall, who is under contract until 2031, may not be easy.
His current market valuation is around £52 million, but given his enthusiasm for a move, a potential buyer may be able to successfully negotiate that figure down somewhat.
The development comes as Spurs look to strengthen their engine room this summer to prevent a repeat of a disappointing season, and have brought in several highly-rated midfielders.
The Lilywhites finished 17th in the Premier League last season, narrowly avoiding relegation to the Championship with a 1-0 win over Everton on the final day of the season.
And with De Zerbi in charge for the upcoming season, Spurs appear to be aggressively upgrading the entire squad. The Athletic reports that the club are prepared to break free from the wage structure in order to sign Sandro Tonali, who rose to prominence at Newcastle United last season.
However, with his price tag hovering around the £100m mark, it remains unclear whether he will be able to scrape together the funds needed to tempt the Magpies, given the Lilywhites’ determination to keep the Italian.
West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes has also been mentioned as another potential target, with the east London side potentially looking to cut payroll after suffering relegation this season.

Spurs are understood to have approached their London rivals about a move, but the Hammers value the 21-year-old, who is still in his prime, at around £80m.
