Anthony Gordon has just joined Barcelona in a blockbuster move, with the England winger picking the brains of Marcus Rashford, who just spent a year at Camp Nou.
Anthony Gordon has revealed that Marcus Rashford has helped him provide local tips and insight as he prepares for his blockbuster move to Barcelona.
The two wingers, who will be competing for England’s left-wing spot at the World Cup, are in camp together after Gordon recently completed a £70m move from Newcastle to Barcelona.
Rashford has just spent the past year in Spain on loan from Manchester United. The forward wants to make the move permanent and Barcelona have a £26m option to sign him, but are keen to negotiate new terms while making ends meet.
Signing Gordon could hinder their ability to pursue Rashford, especially as they are also targeting Julián Álvarez from La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid. But despite this, the United loanee has done everything in his power to ensure that Gordon is ready enough to start life at Barcelona.
He told talkSPORT: “He just told me how good the players are and the team spirit they have, which I had already heard from the people at Barça.
“So I’m really looking forward to joining them. He’s also told me about the city and where to live. He’s a nice guy, a very caring guy, so he just gave me little bits of information.”
In modern times, it is rare for an Englishman to move to Barcelona. However, Rashford endured some memorable moments, one of which was the brace that helped the Catalans beat Gordon and Newcastle in the Champions League. Gordon wants to prove his worth after paying a hefty salary, but he is adamant that he can deliver.
“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind two weeks, but it’s been the best two weeks ever for me and my family,” the winger said. “It was really cool because I told them from a young age that I would get this far, but they kept telling me congratulations and this and that.
“I’m not at all satisfied with just playing for Barcelona. I want to win everything. In my mind, my career starts here. So I’m at the stage I always said I would be. Now I need to go to the next level again.”
