Manchester United appointed Michael Carrick as their new permanent head coach last month and are already looking to strengthen their squad in the transfer market.
Atalanta midfielder Ederson is set to become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era at Manchester United, with an agreement now being reached on his achievements.
Carrick will oversee the rebuilding of Manchester United’s midfield this summer after winning 11 of 16 games as caretaker manager and securing the permanent head coach position. And with Casemiro already leaving Old Trafford, the club immediately got to work in the transfer market.
Ederson’s move to United has long been rumored, and after several weeks of negotiations, an agreement has now been reached between the clubs.
The Athletic report that United will pay the 26-year-old a deposit of €40.5 million (about £35 million), plus a further €4.5 million (about 400 million yen) in add-ons.
After completing his medical, Ederson will sign a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months, with the deal expected to be completed by early July.
Ederson is likely to be Manchester United’s first signing under Carrick, but the Brazilian is not the only new signing at Old Trafford this summer.
The Red Devils are keen to sign more midfielders and could add two more depending on how the summer progresses.
Matheus Fernandes has emerged as another target in midfield, while Arsenal are also interested in the West Ham player, who is not expected to stay following the Hammers’ relegation. Carlos Baleva and Sandro Tonali are also two midfielders with Premier League experience that Manchester United admire.
United are also big fans of Elliott Anderson, who was in great form for Nottingham Forest and is poised to play a key role for England at the World Cup.
However, Manchester City are favorites to sign the former Newcastle star, with the transfer fee potentially exceeding £100m if Nottingham Forest have their way.
