Marcus Rashford has suffered another setback as a key ally prepares to leave, with the Manchester United star still facing an uncertain future. Rashford announced his intention to leave Old Trafford last summer and spent the season on loan at Barcelona.
As a result, Rashford’s future remains shrouded in uncertainty, but new developments regarding United’s loanee have been revealed ahead of the summer transfer window. Spanish newspaper Sport has reported that Barcelona are planning to allow Rooney Barzigi to leave the club this summer.
Barça acquired Bulge on a permanent deal from FC Copenhagen last summer, agreeing to a four-year contract until the summer of 2029. However, with Bulge’s limited first-team action this season, Barcelona are reportedly considering a summer move for the 20-year-old, potentially through a loan deal that includes the option of a permanent transfer.
According to reports, Barzisi and Barcelona manager Hansi Flick agree that a move this summer is the best move. Rashford developed a close friendship with Bulge during his time at Barcelona, and the Sweden international’s potential departure could be a huge blow to the United loanee.
There is already considerable uncertainty surrounding Rashford’s future this summer, especially after Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.
The Spanish giants approved the deal last week, with the England international reportedly worth €80m (approximately £69.2m) to move to Camp Nou. Rashford and Gordon play in almost the same position, raising questions about whether Barcelona will pursue a move for the United forward who already has an international team-mate.
There are also reports suggesting that Barcelona may target Bernardo Silva on a free transfer this summer after leaving Manchester City. Importantly for Rashford, it has been suggested that any attempt to sign Silva could ultimately take United’s potential deal for the winger off the table.
