Hugo Ekitike completed a £79 million move to Liverpool earlier this month, revealing that he and Arne Slot discussed in terms of expectations for a fresh Premier League season
Hugo Ekitike provided a one-word answer when he quized about his argument with Arne Slot before sealing off the switch to Liverpool. The 23-year-old striker recently confirmed his move from Eintrak Frankfurt to Anfield in a deal worth £79 million, as the Reds are looking to improve their offensive options during this summer’s transfer.
After Ekitike scored 22 goals and contributed 12 assists to Frankfurt in 48 matches in all competitions last season, it’s hardly shocking that slots identified the forward as a valuable addition when the summer market opened. French International travelled to London for his medical care earlier this month, then joined new managers and teammates on Hong Kong and Japan’s preseason tours.
His path to Liverpool has been extensively covered on the club’s official media channels, with the Reds sharing exclusive behind the scenes content of his medical care on their YouTube channel earlier this week, Liverpool Echo reports. During the video, Ekitike revealed exactly that he and Slot had argued before he and Slot swear their future to Anfield on a six-year contract.

Ekitique simply laughed, “Press” and laughed, laughing, when he questioned whether he had already spoken slots during Liverpool medical care and what the manager had told him. He added:
“We talked a bit about everything, what he expects from players, the type of players he likes, how people are, and how people are and how it was really important at this club to be a good person and being all of that.”

Liverpool secured the signature of left-back Milos Kerquez on a £40 million contract from Bournemouth, while Puscus Academia goalkeeper Armin Pexi signed for just £1.5 million. However, the Reds’ summer transfer business is not over yet.
There was no chance that Liverpool would land ahead of Newcastle United. Despite Magpies’ claim that their star players are not being sold in interest from the Reds, Swedish International has expressed his desire to explore other opportunities this summer.
According to a recent report, Liverpool is planning to pay ISAK its first £60m this year, adding an additional £60m in 2026, allowing the total cost of the contract to be £140m. But Newcastle needs to ensure that the right alternative for the 25-year-old before pondering about leaving St. James Park in the coming weeks.
Currently, they are said to be monitoring the tabs of RB Leipzig Wonderkid Benjamin Sesko. However, as Reuben Amorim continues to search for a reliable No. 9, they may face competition with Manchester United for the striker’s signature.
