Manchester United should sign Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window to take the club to the next level under manager Michael Carrick. This is the view of former United stars Patrice Evra and Louis Saha, who believe Osimhen will make a big difference as the club looks to strengthen this summer.
Osimhen helped Galatasaray win the Turkish league last season with 22 goals and has scored 59 goals in 74 games since joining from Napoli. The Nigeria international had been linked with Chelsea before joining Galatasaray, but had never featured in the Premier League. United spent more than £200m last summer, bringing in Benjamin Sesco, Matheus Cunha and Brian Mbeumo to strengthen their attacking line. Sesco and Mbeumo together scored 11 goals in the Premier League during their debut season at Old Trafford, with Cunha contributing 10 goals, one more than captain Bruno Fernandes.
After a difficult start to the season under Ruben Amorim, United turned their fortunes around under Carrick, winning 12 of his 17 games in charge and finishing third.
Despite falling just two goals short of champions Arsenal’s tally, Evra urged his former club to sign Osimhen once a £37m deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson is completed.
Evra told GOAL: “Victor Osimhen, I have the utmost respect for Galatasaray, the love he has for it and the kind of players he is. Manchester United need a proper striker and I have a lot of respect for the strikers at Man United.”
“But we used to have four great strikers, so if we want to play in all competitions we need more.
“Of course we need defenders, like an extra left-back, because there could be injuries or a right-back. Of course, with Casemiro leaving, we need to replace those players. But if I had to name one player, I would say Osimhen, because I know this guy can make a difference.”
The 27-year-old has found the back of the net for every club he has represented, scoring 76 goals in 133 games for Napoli before joining Galatasaray.

Given his track record and his contract with the Turkish club until June 2029, he won’t come cheap, but Saha believes he’s worth the investment.
“I really like Victor Osimhen. He definitely has character, he has quality,” said the Frenchman.
“He has a good pedigree in Europe as well. He was successful in France, became Italian champion with Napoli, went to Turkey with Galatasaray and did great things. To be honest, it’s probably a move he didn’t want.”
“He has scored goals at every level, he has Champions League experience and, on top of that, he has the type of personality and charisma that this United team could really benefit from. I think he would be a transformational signing for Manchester United.”
“He is the perfect man to lead United’s team, given the pressure he was under at Napoli, where he brought the club’s first title in 33 years. He will have a huge impact on United. I would like to see the hierarchy at the club move in his favor. I think he is exactly the player we need.”
