The summer transfer window will be crucial for Liverpool as they look to regain momentum after an unforgettable season. The Reds posted their lowest points total in over a decade, but still qualified for the Champions League on the final day.
But for now, we are looking at arrivals as well as departures. Here’s the latest on Express Sport from around Anfield.
Manager reveals Liverpool’s ambitions
Reims manager Pierre Sarge has been linked with a number of positions following his team’s surprising second-place finish in Ligue 1. He is expected to stay put for now, but a move to Anfield would be a dream come true for the 47-year-old.
Sage, who joined Reims last summer, has signed a three-year contract and has indicated his intention to take charge in next season’s Champions League.
But when Telefoot was pressed for his dream position, Liverpool’s name came up. Lens turned to Sage, who was released by Lyon in January 2025 after finishing eighth last season under manager Will Still.
Aided by some astute signings, including top scorer Odessonne Edouard, Les Saint-et-Or ended up just six points behind champions Paris Saint-Germain, beating Nice in the final to win the Coupe de France title.
Dumfries returns to the table
Liverpool signed Jeremy Frimpong last summer, but that did not prevent them from keeping a close eye on compatriot Denzel Dumfries.
Inter Milan defender Dumfries, who has two years remaining on his current contract, is thought to have a release clause of just under £22m, a sum the Reds appear prepared to meet.
Reports from Italy claim that Liverpool were unable to complete a transfer during the winter period but are working towards a summer move. The 30-year-old full-back has been linked with a move to Barcelona if the Catalan side decide to let Jules Kounde go.
Dumfries has been with Inter since 2021 and has made 200 appearances for the club this season. He also started in six of the Netherlands’ eight World Cup qualifiers and scored against Finland and Poland.
