Manchester City won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and celebrated with a parade as fans lined the streets and Pep Guardiola enjoyed his final chance to say goodbye.
Manchester City fans lined the streets to parade two pieces of silverware that marked Pep Guardiola’s final farewell.
The Catalan’s departure was announced last week and he led the team in their final game on Sunday, a loss to Aston Villa at the Etihad. After the final whistle, Manager Guardiola stood center stage and gave a farewell speech.
The 55-year-old left without winning a title, finishing second behind Arsenal, but City still won two domestic cups. They won the Carabao Cup in March, beating rivals Arsenal, with Nico O’Reilly scoring twice at Wembley.
In early May, City defeated Chelsea to win the FA Cup, Guardiola’s third title in England. Antoine Semenyo, who joined in January, scored the winning goal in the second half.
The parade route was filled with the city’s scarves and flags, and the event started in the Northern Quarter and ended at Etihad Airways’ Colin Bell Stand reception.

The Etihad, who have just opened their new North Stand, had a record attendance for the final game, giving fans the chance to once again celebrate the team and say goodbye to the most successful manager in the club’s history.
In his farewell speech, Guardiola said: “I never expected to be here for 10 years. Manchester has become my home. One more thing before you go home for a beer or a glass of wine or something… If you see me in any city around the world in the next few years, if you’re a Manchester City fan, come and hug me. I need that.”
“It’s a great honor to represent this club. With every decision I make, even when I make mistakes, I have always thought about what is best for this club. I love you very much.”
According to reports, Enzo Maresca, who previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant at City, will be his successor. The Italian player most recently worked at Chelsea, but left in January.
The man announced as Guardiola’s replacement will take over a team that has recently undergone a transition, with new stars arriving to reduce the age group of the team. Marc Gehi, Semenyo and Rayan Cherki were the main players.
As well as Guardiola, club stalwarts John Stones and Bernardo Silva also waved goodbye. Bernardo was the most used player under Guardiola, with both sides winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
