Manchester United are looking to make a quick start to the transfer window as Michael Carrick looks to strengthen his side ahead of the 2026/27 season. They ended their Premier League campaign with a lopsided win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon. United had already secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, so there was nothing to buy into this game.
While the season has just ended, the summer transfer window is already attracting a lot of attention. United are reportedly considering signing at least two central midfielders, with Casemiro in need of a replacement when his contract expires. Several players could potentially leave Old Trafford between now and the start of next season.
If all goes to plan, here are three transfers that could be completed soon.
United look likely to make Atalanta playmaker Ederson their first signing in the midfield window. They have been linked with the 26-year-old’s signature for quite some time and their pursuit could finally come to fruition in the coming days.
Negotiations between the two clubs are currently thought to be progressing over a potential transfer fee of £43 million. If all goes well, the deal could close within a few days.
Although a move for Tonali seems unlikely to be imminent, reports in Italy suggest that a deal may already be close.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, a deal is close to being finalized for the Newcastle midfielder to join the Red Devils. However, it was not revealed how much United would have to pay the Magpies to sign him.
They were rumored to have been linked with a move for Tonali in January, with suggestions that they could return to sign him in the coming weeks. Time will tell if Newcastle can convince them to sell before the start of next season
Another deal that could technically be completed by the end of this week would see Marcus Rashford join Barcelona permanently.
The newly crowned La Liga champions have the option to buy Rashford for around £26 million thanks to a buy-out clause built into his season-long loan deal.
However, it is widely reported that Barcelona believe the fee is too high and will only sign the England international if United accept reduced terms.
