Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Liverpool
First and foremost, get the easy stuff out of the way. Champions Arsenal have clearly qualified for Europe’s top competition, with runners-up Manchester City also set to join them.
Manchester United will also return to the Champions League after a fantastic run under manager Michael Carrick. Aston Villa will also qualify for next season’s competition following their success in the Europa League against Freiburg. Villa’s 2-1 win against Manchester City on the final day capped off an impressive season, and Villa’s fourth-place finish was enough to qualify.
This is where things get a little complicated. The Premier League was given an extra spot due to the UEFA coefficient, and fifth place was enough to secure a spot.
Liverpool drew with Brentford on the final day, giving the dethroned champions their final Champions League spot.

Manchester City won the FA Cup, dropping them to 6th place in the league. Bournemouth secured their spot despite a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on the final day.
There were circumstances in which the Cherries could have qualified for the Champions League, but only if Aston Villa finished sixth. As it stands, the Cherries are in the Europa League.
They will be joined by Sunderland, who beat Chelsea on the final day at the Stadium of Light and moved into seventh place. Trey Hume gave the Black Cats the lead in the first half before Maro Gusto scored an own goal.
Crystal Palace will be added to this list if they beat Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final next week.

With City also hosting the Carabao Cup at Wembley, their final European standings dropped to eighth in the Premier League. A number of clubs could have taken the final spot, including Chelsea.
However, Brighton were the only Premier League side represented in the competition. They lost 3-0 to Manchester United on the final day, but the result spread to other countries and they returned to Europe.
