Mohamed Salah has admitted that he has no intention of returning to Anfield in the future because he is too emotional. The outgoing Liverpool forward wept as he waved goodbye to the club after making his final appearance on Sunday. He was given a standing ovation and a guard of honor when he was substituted in the second half of the 1-1 draw with Brentford.

Before kick-off, Anfield fans paid their final farewell to Salah as a giant tifo was unveiled at the Kop end. He spoke to Sky Sports afterwards, trying to sum up his thoughts and feelings on a very emotional day. The winger said it would be very difficult for him to return in the future, considering what he has achieved over the past nine years.

Salah also implored Arne Slott to remain in a position to allow Liverpool to “fight for everything” beyond next season.

“I will not come back. Every time I come back I will be emotional,” Salah explained. “To be fair, I love everything about this place and would love to come back, but I hope the team stays in a position to fight for everything.

“This is what we’ve been doing for the last 10 years. I don’t want people to get the wrong idea that I’m coming back because I know people will twist it, but no, no.”

Asked about his emotional sending off when he was substituted midway through the second half, Salah replied: “I think I cried the most in my life. I’m not a very emotional guy.”

Salah went on to take aim at Andy Robertson, who is also widely expected to leave Liverpool this summer and join Tottenham on a contract until 2028.

“We spent our youth here and shared everything from beginning to end,” said the Egyptian. “We’ve got this club back where it belongs. He (Robertson) is loved because he gives his all on the field. They love him for that.”

“It’s difficult to leave Liverpool. He was very important to the team and to that period we had. It’s a real honor to share a dressing room with him. He was there for the team. It’s a great honor to share a dressing room with him.”

“This is life. When I look back, I wonder if I wanted more than what I achieved. That’s not the case. We won everything. I’m seeing the love from the fans and that’s the most important thing to me.”
