England coach Thomas Tuchel has announced that some young players who were not selected in the 26-man World Cup squad will take part in team training in the United States.
Liverpool youngster Rio Ngmoha is among the players taking part in England’s pre-World Cup training camp. Manager Thomas Tuchel announced his 26-man squad on Friday morning, with several big-name stars absent.
Harry Maguire, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Adam Wharton, Cole Palmer, Morgan Gibbs-White and Phil Foden are among the players left out of the Three Lions squad, with Jed Spence and Ivan Toney the most surprising players.
Tuchel met with reporters to explain his decision and announced that three players – Liverpool’s Ngmoha, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Fulham’s Josh King – will help England prepare for the United States, as well as one player who has not yet been named.
“We’ll take some young players to train with us and keep the team at the size we need,” Tuchel said. “We have every possibility for the two friendlies considering minutes and player workload, so it will be Alex Scott, Rio Ngmoha, Josh King and there will be another player who I can’t name because it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

“But I’m glad they’re with us, especially Alex, who was also on the 55-man list and had some disappointing calls. Even though he didn’t make the first cut, the reaction was great. The commitment, the desire to participate in pre-camp and get as close to the team as possible showed me his character.”
“I’m glad he’s with us because he had a close call but now he’s one step closer and has the chance to win a cap.”
Additional bodies will be needed when England depart for Florida on June 1, as Arsenal players will not be able to join them immediately. Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Noni Maduke will feature in Arsenal’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.

“I think Dean will be fine. We have Jason Steele in camp,” Tuchel said. “You can start with three goalkeepers, but we have four.” Jordan Pickford remains England’s number one, with Manchester City’s James Trafford the other option in the squad.
The England squad will first fly to Florida to prepare before heading to their home base in Kansas City. The tournament begins on June 11th, with the Three Lions’ first game being against Croatia on June 17th in Arlington, Texas, followed by group games against Ghana and Panama.
