Sonny Aljoffrey has shared an emotional farewell message as the defender announced his departure from Manchester United. The 21-year-old posted the heartfelt message just days before United’s campaign officially ends on Sunday’s final day of the Premier League season and they travel to Brighton.
As the summer transfer window approaches, major changes to United’s squad seem inevitable, with a number of departures expected as well as new signings.
Despite the season not being over yet, Algeoffrey has almost confirmed he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
“After 14 years at this great football club, my second home and the place where I grew from a boy to an adult,” Al Joffrey posted on Instagram.
“I cannot thank the staff, players and everyone who has helped me enough.
“I have gained a brother for life and I will always be grateful for what this club has given me. I wish everyone at the club the best of luck.”
“I’m ready to kick on. I’ll continue to grow as a person and a player. Once red, always red.”
A number of United players took the opportunity to send farewell messages to Al Joffrey in the comments, with Koby Mainu writing: “Good luck.”
Harry Ammas wrote: “Good luck, brother,” while 2025 signing Diego León also wrote: “All the best to you, Hermano.” Shea Lacey added: “Rest in peace my brother,” while Toby Collier left a red heart emoji.
Ajoufri has yet to feature for United’s first team this season and it is widely expected that his summer departure will give the defender more opportunities in senior football.
The 21-year-old was called up to United’s first-team training in April due to a lack of centre-back options available at the club.
Ajofri trained with the first team ahead of United’s 2-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League, but was not named in the match-day squad by head coach Michael Carrick.
The defender has spent the majority of the past two seasons on loan before moving to Accrington Stanley last season, making 27 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals.
Al-Joffrey also spent the first half of this season on loan at League Two side Notts County, making 11 appearances and scoring one goal before returning to United during the January transfer window.
