Manager Josep Guardiola has reportedly decided to leave Manchester City at the end of this season, but has repeatedly told the media that he still has one year left on his contract at the Etihad.

Manager Josep Guardiola insists he has not yet made a decision on his future and is expected to meet Manchester City leaders next week. News broke on Monday night that Guardiola has already decided to leave City after a trophy-laden decade.

It quickly became clear that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, a former member of Guardiola’s coaching staff, was the likely candidate to succeed Guardiola. City played Bournemouth to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, ending their hopes of winning a seventh Premier League title under the 55-year-old, who refused to answer questions about his future before kick-off.

After the match, Guardiola was asked again about the speculation and reiterated that his contract with City runs until June 2027. “I can say that I have one year left on my contract and from my experience over the years of discussions, anything announced during the tournament is a bad, bad result,” he told Sky Sports.

“As you understand, the first person I have to talk to is the chairman (Khaldoun Al Mubarak) because we have decided when the season will end. We will sit down and discuss it. It will be very simple. And after that we will make a decision.”

“Listen, I have one more year on my contract. I won’t say it here because I have to speak to the chairman, the players and the staff. When you play in the FA Cup, before you qualify for the Champions League, when you play in the Premier League, there is only one thing in my mind and the focus is to get the team to the maximum points. And we achieved that.”

“I’m the happiest person on earth to be at this club. This club is really special. The moment the season ends for us, we want to arrive at the last game with the fans, who will definitely be there. In 10 seasons they have performed well in many moments and that is what we have to do until the end.”

Guardiola also congratulated Arsenal and former colleague Mikel Arteta on their title win. “On behalf of Manchester City and my entire team, I would like to congratulate Arsenal, Mikel’s staff, the backroom staff, all the players and the fans on this Premier League journey,” he added. “They deserve it.”
