Arsenal and Islington Council have announced that the Premier League trophy parade will be held at 2pm on May 31, the day after the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest. The Gunners’ 22-year wait for a league title ended on Tuesday night as Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth.

City’s failure to win at the Vitality Stadium means Pep Guardiola’s side will be unable to catch up with Arsenal in this weekend’s final match. Mikel Arteta’s side, who have been top of the table for most of the season, opened up a five-point cushion with a 1-0 win at Burnley on Monday.

Arsenal’s team and staff gathered at the training ground to watch City’s missteps and will lift the trophy after Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, supporters headed to the Emirates to celebrate late into the night, while players were spotted outside the stadium in the early hours of the morning.

Fans will soon be excited to turn their attention to the title parade, but the club has now announced details.

A statement on the club’s website said: “We are Premier League champions! We would like to thank our supporters who have been with us every step of this incredible journey. You have shown up, acted for each other and brought us back to where we belong. You have supported us and shown will for us this far. We can’t wait to lift the trophy in front of our traveling supporters at Selhurst Park after the final whistle this weekend.”

“To celebrate our title, we are delighted to announce that we will be holding a special parade around our home ground of Islington with our supporters and community members from 2pm on Sunday 31st May. This will follow the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on Saturday 30th May at 5pm (UK time).”

“If we are successful in this match, our parade will also celebrate this historic victory. This will be a major public event and we expect to see large numbers of supporters in the local area. We hope they will be able to join in the celebrations on the day. Local residents and businesses should be advised that this event will result in disruption across the borough, with road closures and parking outages.”

“It may also be difficult to move around the borough normally and follow routes. We will provide further details about the parade closer to the time, but these will only be published on our website and other official Arsenal channels.”

Meanwhile, Islington City Council said: “As this will be a large public event, we expect a large number of supporters to gather locally. We hope you will be able to join in the celebrations on the day, but please be aware that this event will result in disruption across the borough, with road closures and parking suspensions.”

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundles to include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, plus 135 channels and complete coverage of the Premier League and EFL from Sky.

Sky has over 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more, with at least 215 of those live from the top flight, along with F1, darts and golf.

“It may also be difficult to travel normally through the borough or along the parade route. Details of routes and closures will be announced closer to the event, but please consider now how this will impact your plans.”

After City’s draw with Bournemouth, Islington Council leader Una O’Halloran released a message of congratulations. “The champions of Islington are the champions of England. Congratulations, Arsenal,” she said. “We are extremely proud of our team for bringing home the Premier League title and on behalf of everyone in the borough I congratulate them on their success.

“Not only have they achieved sporting greatness, but they have also inspired a whole new generation of fans to watch this beautiful game. We thank them for everything they do for Arsenal and Islington and we congratulate them on this incredible achievement.”

Arsenal will play their final game of the season against Crystal Palace, lifting the trophy at Selhurst Park on May 24th before heading to the Hungarian capital to face PSG in the Champions League final on May 30th (5pm). Beating the current holders would be a big statement for Arteta’s men and give them the chance to parade both trophies in the streets of Islington the next day.

The north Londoners are chasing historic feats and have never won a European competition, despite coming very close in 2006, reaching the final against dominant Barcelona at the Stade de France.
