Mikel Arteta gave Arsenal a long-awaited title win and will be rewarded with a new contract and another big transfer force. Arsenal are keen to sign the Championship-winning manager on a two-year extension as Arteta’s current contract expires in 2027.
The Spaniard has brought about an extraordinary transformation during his six-and-a-half years at the Emirates, with his crowning achievement being leading the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years. Arteta is firmly established among Europe’s elite managers and is in a position to largely dictate his terms, but his new deal represents a significant improvement on his current salary of £5m a year and is certain to include a hefty Champions League bonus.
Arsenal are also planning another ambitious summer transfer window, despite the possibility of some departures as well as new signings.
Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta is keen to strengthen Arsenal’s attacking options and has firmly targeted Atletico Madrid striker Julián Alvarez.
Alvarez is an attractive player given his proven history at the highest level, his eye for goal and his versatility across multiple positions, which is central to Arsenal’s recruitment strategy.
The club are also looking for reinforcements on the left wing and in central midfield, with West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes also being monitored and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali also under consideration.
With Porto’s Victor Fromholt also attracting attention, Arsenal would ideally welcome a new centre-half to add further depth to their squad.
There is no doubt that Arsenal will need to offload players this summer, and no transfer window will match last year’s splurge of £250m on the likes of Victor Goqueres and Noni Madueques.
Gabriel Jesus has 12 months left on his contract and could leave due to limited playing time, while a high-profile departure could also be made to restore financial balance.
Borussia Dortmund tried to maintain interest by signing Ethan Nwaneri last summer, but Arsenal could be forced to let go of a purely lucrative academy product.
Gabriel Martinelli is also receiving a lot of attention now that he is no longer an automatic starter.
