Josep Guardiola is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, and although he will take a break in the short term, he is still likely to return to the dugout in the future.

Josep Guardiola is set to leave Manchester City this summer after a glorious 10-year stay at the Etihad Stadium. The Spaniard is bringing an end to a fantastic campaign with City, during which he lifted 20 trophies.

Guardiola won the Premier League six times, the FA Cup three times, the League Cup five times and the Champions League. He will be able to add to that impressive list of accomplishments by the end of the campaign.

All eyes will now be on finding a candidate to replace Guardiola, and all signs point to former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. The former may also be pondering their next steps.

Guardiola has already hinted that he could take a break similar to the one he took during his time at Barcelona. But in reality, he might be tempted to return to the dugout soon if some jobs become available.

Guardiola may want to move to Italy and experience another of Europe’s top five leagues, having already progressed through Spain, Germany and England. Given the precarious nature of the position in Serie A, there are several jobs that could be found, but the most obvious one is Juventus.

The old ladies, once serial league champions, have not won the trophy since 2020 under coach Maurizio Sarri. Guardiola will have plenty of resources at hand if he is tempted to move to Turin.

Luciano Spalletti is also under contract until the end of the season, so they may have to look for a new manager sooner or later.

Another of the top five leagues that Guardiola has yet to tackle is Ligue 1. And the obvious candidates to do that are reigning European champions PSG.

Of course, current manager Luis Enrique has taken on that role, with reports suggesting he is set to sign a new contract with the Parc des Princes. But he hasn’t put pen to paper on that deal yet, and his job remains up in the air.

PSG will certainly be able to meet Guardiola’s wage demands and will have the same level of support as Man City in the transfer market. Of course, that depends on what Enrique does over the next few months.

Spain

There are only a few clubs around the world that can tempt Guardiola, so a move to international management could be much more likely. The 55-year-old could become Spain’s national team manager at some point.

Any deal would certainly be a win-win, as Guardiola would be given the chance to move into international management, while the Spanish national team would gain one of the most talented managers in world football.

However, much may depend on Luis de la Fuente’s future. He has already helped Spain win the Euros, but a disappointing World Cup result could see him take the next step.

Italy

Italy is one of the countries that will not be participating in the World Cup. The European nation missed out on qualifying for this summer’s tournaments in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and coach Gennaro Gattuso has stepped down.

Silvio Baldini has been appointed as his successor, but this is only an interim role. Given that Guardiola spent time in Italy during his spells with Brescia and Roma, he may be tempted to take on the role as Italian football tries to recover from its recent setbacks.

Brazil

Many will be surprised to see Brazil on this list, given that Carlo Ancelotti is currently in charge and only signed a new contract earlier this year. Guardiola has had numerous links with the national team throughout his career and could spark renewed interest if Ancelotti leaves the club sooner than expected.

He may have to wait, but it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Selecao and the Spaniard link up.
