Steven Gerrard offers bleak view of Arne Slott following Liverpool’s Mo Salah’s fury

Liverpool forward Mo Salah has issued an angry statement less than 24 hours after the Reds suffered a disastrous defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, with Steven Gerrard giving his thoughts.

Steven Gerrard believes Mohamed Salah’s angry comments are having a “negative impact” on Arne Slott’s future at the club. The Egyptian forward shared the home truth on social media on Saturday afternoon.

He insisted the team needed to “regain its identity” and called on his teammates to adapt to the club’s demands. Liverpool icon Gerrard was asked for his opinion and admitted he had been caught off guard, but suggested the comments could raise concerns about his future at Slot and Anfield.

The former midfielder told TNT Sports: “Wow, listen, that’s very interesting. Mo Salah doesn’t really talk much, he doesn’t tweet, of course he doesn’t tweet like that. So I think he’s sending a message to the outside world that the situation in the Liverpool dressing room is not right. Identity has been lost and it’s really hurtful for him to see that in front of his eyes.”

“I’m surprised at the timing. There’s one game left and it’s his last game for Liverpool. You know he’s been involved with the media. He rarely speaks, he’s been giving interviews lately, because obviously he’s coming to the end of a great Liverpool career. But given the current state of this team, it’s pretty terrible for the Liverpool manager and his staff. That’s my opinion.”

“Is he saying his back for everyone else in the dressing room? It’s strange, it’s not normal. He’s going to get a lot of media coverage around the last game, I’m sure. It’s unusual for a Liverpool player and it’s unusual for Mo Salah, so I’m really looking forward to the next few days.”

“Crumble is a strong word. Absolutely terrible timing. Rare to hear from Mo.

“The pressure is on both the players and the manager because it was far from good enough. Last night’s performance was terrible, it was terrible, it was hard to watch from start to finish and it was heartbreaking to watch Liverpool last night.”

“I don’t usually say that. It was a tough 90 minutes, but they got what they deserved. Villa were better all over the pitch. There was no contest, no passion, no patterns of play, no connections. They weren’t moving around the pitch together. Individually they were far away from the level I know they can perform. It hurt watching Liverpool last night. They were nowhere near good enough. Let’s end this story.”

Salah is set to leave on a free transfer this summer, despite having one year left on his contract. The last game at Anfield will be against Brentford next weekend, with Liverpool potentially needing a win to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.
