The Portugal international was at the center of transfer rumors last summer. However, Fernandes made his intentions clear. He intends to remain at Old Trafford to fulfill the ambitions he set when he joined from Sporting CP in January 2020. Meanwhile, United are rumored to be making a surprise move for Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi ahead of the summer transfer window. Here, Express Sport compiles some of the most important stories surrounding the club.
United’s captain insists his team will be aiming for football’s highest honor next season. Fernandes reiterated that his decision to join the club was motivated by the pursuit of a major player, and insisted that any player who joins during the summer transfer window will feel the same way.
“Obviously heading into next season, we all know that the goal of this club must always be winning,” Fernandes said. “I don’t think players choose to come to Man United in the first place because they just want to wear the shirt.
“It’s a big feeling, it’s a big thing to be sent off at Old Trafford and that was the dream I had, but I had that dream because I knew this club could win things and come close to winning the Premier League and the Champions League. That’s why I came to this club.”
The midfielder won the FA Cup and League Cup during his time in England, but struggled last year without lifting the Europa League trophy. Despite this, he remains motivated to win further big honors with United.
“I always say what I want to achieve. What I want to achieve is winning the league and winning the Champions League,” Fernandes explained.
Bournemouth announce departure
Bournemouth have announced that defender Senesi will leave the club when his contract expires this summer. The 29-year-old Argentina international has attracted interest from United and other Premier League teams and is set to become a free agent.
Senesi joined the Cherries in 2022 and made 126 appearances for the club. His next move is sure to generate considerable speculation, but the centre-back has insisted Andoni Iraola’s side remain fully focused on securing a European spot.
In a statement from the Bournemouth club, Sensei said: “From the first day I arrived I felt at home at this club. I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved over the last four years and I’m grateful for the support the fans have always given me.”
“AFC Bournemouth will always have a special place in my heart and I will look back on my time here with fond memories. There are still two big games left in the season so far and I am looking forward to what we can achieve together.”
