Manchester United have undergone a remarkable turnaround under manager Michael Carrick, and one of the players key to their turnaround in fortunes has a big future at Old Trafford.
Harry Maguire has claimed Lenny Yolo has the potential to become Manchester United’s “all-time great” despite a slow start to life at Old Trafford. The French defender joined the Red Devils from Lille in 2024 for a fee of £52 million.
Yoro had previously shown interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, but United snatched him away and secured his contract. The 20-year-old only made 21 appearances in the Premier League in his debut season due to injury, and although he has featured more this season, he has only started 18 league games.
Despite this, fellow defender Maguire is rooting for Yoro to develop at Old Trafford and believes he has the potential to become one of the best defenders in Premier League history.
Speaking to DHL Express, the Englishman said: “Lenny Yolo has all the qualities, talent and potential to have the career he wants. It’s unusual to see a player of his age playing as a centre-back in the Premier League, especially for a club like Manchester United.”

“He’s doing a great job and there’s still a lot of things he can improve on. Hopefully, in 10 or 15 years, we can sit here and put his name among the all-time greats.”
Maguire expects big things from Yoro, while also pinning big hopes on another United star. Aiden Haven joined the club from Premier League rivals Arsenal in February last year and has already appeared to have made a positive impression on Maguire.
He added: “I’ve been very impressed with Aiden Haven since he joined the team. I believe in five or six years he and Lenny Yolo can be the central defensive partnership at this club. The talent is there. Now it’s up to them to work hard and keep progressing. They have a great future here.”
Haven has gone on to make 24 appearances for United since joining, but only made one first-team appearance during his time at Arsenal. His contract with the club runs until 2029.
Both Haven and Yoro are likely to receive continued guidance from Maguire as they continue their fledgling careers. The England defender’s contract at Old Trafford was due to expire in the summer, but he signed a new deal with the club earlier this year, extending his stay until 2027 with the option of a further campaign.
