Marcus Rashford’s future at Barcelona remains open despite helping the club win La Liga, but the former Manchester United star believes his future may lie in Italy
Former Manchester United star Jaap Stam has told the Red Devils to complete a sensational swap deal that includes Marcus Rashford and AC Milan ace Rafael Leao. The former’s future remains up in the air, having spent a year on loan at Spanish giants Barcelona.
The Catalans have the option to make that agreement permanent, but it remains to be seen whether they will trigger its provisions. However, Rashford has expressed his desire to remain at Camp Nou.
After leading Barcelona to the Spanish title, he said: “I don’t know. I’m not a magician, but if I was, I’d stay. So we’ll see.”
However, former United star Stam suggested Rashford’s future could lie in Italy and a swap deal for Milan forward Leao could be considered. Speaking to ComeOn, the Dutchman said: “Maybe a swap of Rafael Leao and Marcus Rashford could work. Leao is also a good player.”

“Of course he has shown what he is capable of at Milan as well. I think he is a player who should be added to Manchester United’s target list.”
“Having said that, you need to look not only at the skills of the players, but also the mentality of the players. You need to consider the situation the club is in, what kind of players you bring in and how they will contribute to the club going forward. That way you don’t get frustrated by players not being selected in the starting XI.”
“We’ve seen that it can cause a kind of turmoil within the dressing room. So you have to look at the personality of the player, the big picture and who is the best player to bring to the club.”
“It’s a very exciting feeling to bring in these types of players, but we don’t have to think about what’s best at the moment. We have to think about the long-term project and what’s really important for the club.”
Leo is expected to leave AC Milan this summer, with the Portuguese forward having one year left on his contract. Reports in Italy have already suggested that United are considering a move.
One man who appears to be a big fan of the winger moving to Old Trafford is captain Bruno Fernandes. About his compatriot last year, he said: “I met him as a kid at Sporting, he rose to the first team with me.
“He is a boy with tremendous talent and we all want him to get stronger every time because we know how much talent he has. He has had his moments, but I still believe he is a phenomenal player who can give us (Portugal) so much more.”
