Chelsea’s search for a new manager continues, with the club considering options including Cesc Fabregas, Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola before the end of the season.
The short list of candidates to become Chelsea’s new permanent head coach includes Cesc Fabregas, Oliver Glasner and Filipe Luis. The Blues are looking for a permanent replacement for Liam Rosenior following his sacking.
The trio is joined by Andoni Iraola, Xabi Alonso and Marco Silva, completing the list of six candidates vying for the Stamford Bridge job, according to our sister title football.london. Sources say Chelsea aim to appoint a new head coach by the middle of next month, with what is expected to be a busy summer in the Blues’ transfer window.
They are widely expected to be very active on the signing front this summer, with a centre-back, central midfielder and left winger all firmly on the club’s wish list. But for now, Chelsea’s top five sporting leadership team remains firmly focused on the task of appointing a new head coach.

There remains a possibility that Fabregas will remain at the Blues, but sources say the former Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder wants to remain at Como beyond this summer after an excellent season in Serie A. Just two years after winning promotion to Italy’s top flight, it was confirmed at the weekend that Como had won European football for the first time in the club’s history.
Meanwhile, Glasner will be available at the end of the campaign after announcing in January that he would leave Crystal Palace this summer. The Austrian finished in style at Selhurst Park and will be hoping to make it back-to-back titles with victory in the Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano later this month.
As for Luiz, the former Chelsea left-back spent two fruitful years at Flamengo in Brazil. He led Flamengo to the Brazilian championship in his first season, and in 2025 they won the Copa Libertadores.
But back in March, the 40-year-old was mysteriously sacked shortly after his side’s 8-0 victory in the Campeonato Carioca semi-finals. Luiz has not been with the club since then and is said to be under consideration by Chelsea.
Alonso, Silva and Iraola continue to attract Chelsea’s attention, and it is understood that no major developments are currently being made as to who will replace Rosenior.
